However, prior to embarking on your gold seeking adventure and engaging in placer mining activities in BC, you must have a Free Miners License 

If you reside outside of BC, you must first obtain a BC ID. This must be done in person at a BC Registry Office by producing photo identification. You can pre fill the documents required and submit them. You will be provided a confirmation number for use when you arrive at a registry office. This will greatly speed up the process involved.

Purchasing a Placer Claim

Please see the bottom of this page for information regarding Claims.  The potential for locating gold varies as does the size of the tenures and price. Everyone would love to purchase a claim for a small amount of money and be able to retrieve numerous ounces of gold each and every day simply by walking around the claim and picking up the nuggets. However, the reality is, gold is often illusive and requires substantial work to get it out of the ground and into your pocket. On occasion, one may be fortunate to find a nugget but it certainly is not the norm. 

In British Columbia, you are able to conduct hand placer mining activities on your claim without obtaining a work permit (NOW) but if you intend to use any mechanized equipment, a work permit (NOW) is essential. Hand placer mining activities includes activities such as using a gold pan, rocker box, sluice box or highbanker with no more than a 1.5 inch pump. What kind of activities you intend to engage in is important for you to determine prior to acquiring your placer claim. It is also important for you to know your level of seriousness. If you want to engage in occasional placer mining activities, that is weekend mining activities and/or perhaps a week or two during the summer or are you wanting something for a more serious purpose (for example, using the gold you acquire as your main source of income)? Answering these questions will assist you to acquire a claim that is both suited to your needs and affordable. Answers to these questions will also assist us in helping you locate the perfect claim.

Claims For Sale

We are here to assist you through every step in obtaining a claim in British Columbia. We will sit down with you and show you available claims. If you do not have your Free Miners Certificate yet, no problem, we can place your claim under ours and once you obtain your FMC, we will transfer the claim over to you at no further cost. 

When you obtain a list of claims that gets your interest, you can go to the B. C. government Mineral Titles Online site Minerals Titles Online . Enter the claim numbers. This site will provide you with the specific location of the claim and will also provide information with respect to roads, creeks, elevation etc.

Once you have acquired a claim you will need to pay a yearly maintenance fee, (approximately $500.00 per cell), or complete an Exploration and Development work document that states when you were at this tenure and what work was completed.  It is extremely beneficial to take a photo of the site prior to beginning any work, take photos during the time you are at the site and take photos prior to leaving the site. Be sure to fill in any holes dug and clean up the area making sure no garbage is left behind. Basically, you need to be able to prove when you were at the site, and what work was accomplished while you were there.
